Contemporary art encourages the interaction across conventional boundaries of expressive fields. Since 2009, Athens Photo Festival has been an excellent opportunity for experimenting with the ways through which an artistic medium between life and art (performance) and a major visual art (photography) can cross boundaries and create interesting hybrids.

Artists from diverse backrounds (visual arts, theatre,performance art, music,photography,graphic design) will enact issues – related to the exhibited photographs – which will give prominence to the dramatic misplacements caused by the involuntary movement of people and whole communities and to the complexity and multiplicity of the causes and effects of this phenomenon. This mis\dis-placement has to do with a variety of variables (from political to psychological and from social to cross-cultural…)which are the starting point for research into the interaction between photographic and performative practices. The photographic images and the space in which they are exhibited define a place, a space (in which both real and imaginary elements coexist) where the performers through their actions critically trace the morphology of the photographic viewpoint. In this way they also approach the eternal and contemporary aspects of the topic of human mobility.

FESTIVAL OPENING

The Festival will start on Thursday 09 June 2016 at 21.00 with the inaugural performance M a + t e r by Vago Tedosio (live music and direction) and Androniki Marathaki (mouvement design) in sync with the body installation Dismiss by Olga Brouma and Margarita Dosoula.

There will be further live performances throughout the evening.
