Shop owners on Mavrokordatou Street in collaboration with epitelesis – Performance Art Foundation present the DIS-PLAY (window shop project), a one-day event of actions taking place within the display windows of closed stores. By focusing on the re-introduction of the human presence in this context of inactivity through performance art and the art of photography, artists are invited alongside the audience members to re-examine the intermediate space between public and private functions.

Through the investigation of complexities regarding the usage of idle structures for artistic activity, as observed in other cities as well on an international level, Mavrokordatou’s pedestrian street in central Athens, becomes a vibrant center of engagement and exchange with its audience. At the same time, through the display windows, the human body is displaced from its status as a consumer into a product for consumption, as a metaphor for the relationship of civilians to the changing sociopolitical conditions.

The exhibition” Dialogues, interactions: Greek-French archive Demosthenes Agrafiotis” will present the donation offered to the G. Gounaropoulos Museum by the poet and intermedia artist, Demosthenes Agrafiotis. The donation was made in 2019 and is part of the long-term and essential relationship between Greek and French art and intellect. Its goal is “to pay tribute to the Greek-French culture of the painter Gounaropoulos”.

The donation includes two works by Agrafiotis, documents of his international, diverse activity and a number of French periodicals that deeply influenced the artist, including the magazines Critique (147 issues) and Le Cahier du Refuge (173 issues).

The monthly magazine Critique, of the historical publishing house: Les Éditions de Minuit, was first published in 1946 with founder Georges Bataille and continues to this day to be a tribune for the international literary, philosophical and generally intellectual avant-garde. Le Cahier du Refuge is a bulletin and at the same time an exemplary means of documenting the activity of the cipM Center international de poésie Marseille (Marseille International Poetry Center). The Center aims to promote poetry in all its forms through the presentation of a wide range of artistic activities from the international experimental scene.

Exhibition duration: February 17 – March 31, 2021

Until the expiration of the restrictive measures, according to which the museums are still closed to the public, the exhibition will be available only in digital form on the museum website, in the section “Exhibitions” ( /), from 17 February.
